this is the end result of the portrait I was doing for visual journalism. a big thanks to everyone who gave me advice. I am pretty happy with it except for the text, but I had no choice since I ruined the top one and had to crop it off. still, I'd say this turned out better than I would have thought.

last printing of slurricane

I just printed up what I assume will be the last run of Slurricane #1 since I'm trying to focus my energies on making Slurricane #2 this summer. most are going to Atomic Books and Excellent Condition but even after that there might be 10-15 left over if any of ya'll still want one you can paypal me $7 ($2 S&H) or just hit me up if you live in the Baltimore/Philly area. I'm also down for zine trades if anyone's interested.
P.S. sorry for the terrible photo, I lost my camera on a trip to pick up a kitten and I have to use photo booth as a substitute. hopefully its lying around somewhere.

on overcoming fears about creative work...

I discovered this essay by Merlin Mann a while back last year. even though it deals primarily with the act of creative writing and is pretty corny in some parts I think he does a really great job of explaining the fears and anxieties that keep us from starting new projects and taking risks in our artwork. I normally don't go for that whole inspirational writing malarky, but I really dug this. the essay and the recorded speech are different but equally good.

progress on visual journalism portrait

this is an assignment I'm doing for Alain Corbel's visual journalism class. we had to meet a person Alain knew and interview them while drawing their portraits. This guy had a really eventful life to say the least, as well as a lot of great quotes. I decided to go with the motorcycle racing one because looking back at my notes from the interview it stuck out to me as being both unintentionally poetic and badass. anyway, I'm about 80% done with this piece and I'm looking for any suggestions of how to make it better.

P.S. I just realized that the quote got cut off when I scanned it. for those of you who were interested it said "With motorcycle racing I won nothing but broken bones"

police bbq revenge

I'm pretty pissed off about how the police officers pants disappear into the background but otherwise do you think I should start attempting more complicated backgrounds or is it too distracting?
